Safely returning to work on our sites

04 May 2020
A 3 minute read by Tom Bloxham

We have today announced that we will be reopening our sites and our House by Urban Splash modular factory from today, Monday 4 May.

Since we suspended construction in March, we have closely monitored industry guidelines and worked hard on finding ways in which we can safely get our colleagues back to work. The consensus from the government is clear, with housing secretary Robert Jenrick urging developers to operate sites if it is safe to do so.

We’ve now reached that point, and believe that we can get back to creating brilliant neighbourhoods, new homes and workspaces, all while keeping our colleagues safe.

We're creating a brand new neighbourhood at Port Loop in Birmingham

We’ll be following the latest Construction Leadership Council guidelines, and we’ve implemented additional measures on each site, addressing specific layouts and logistics at developments including New Islington in Manchester and Port Loop in Birmingham  – places in which hundreds of homes are being created.

Similarly, all non-office based colleagues will safely return to our House by Urban Splash factory in the East Midlands; hundreds of modular homes will be created to customer specifications there once operations restart.

Our brilliant construction workers – all of whom have responded so well in adapting this past month – have now been briefed in-depth and are keen to return to these sites. They’ll adhere to robust health and safety measures, alternative ways of working and respect social distancing guidelines – and they’ll be supported by the wider Urban Splash family, with colleagues in other areas of the business continuing to do brilliant things while working remotely from home.

All this will help us get building again, creating much needed homes for customers across the country. Buyers still have an appetite for our homes and we’ve even taken reservations during the lockdown; that’s largely due to the enthusiasm of our remotely based sales team and our virtual viewings platform which has allowed customers to take tours of new homes from afar.

Bringing more of our award-winning Town Houses to New Islington

Although business has been running at a slower pace, we’ve also still won awards for our work and we’ve acquired new sites – including a 25-acre development which we’ll make announcements on in the near future.

For now, we look forward to getting our construction colleagues back to work, and keeping them safe.
